𧏠ORIGIN & DOMAIN
The Emserai are water elves born of tide, moon, and myth. Their origins trace back to the ancient sea-dragon NhaarâKezhul, a serpentine goddess whose breath first carved the coral arches of Emster and whose dreams still guide tide-priests. The Emserai call themselves Children of the Seaâs Breathâa race shaped not only by ocean currents, but by prophecy, pleasure, and piratical blood.
Their domain lies across the coastal arms of Varethuun, centered in the kingdom of Emster, with its capital Cindrel rising like a shell-throne from the shallows. Beneath its temples and bathhouses, whole cities driftâmirror towns beneath the waves where moonlight never touches. They are both noble and nightmare: elegant diplomats by day, masked pirates by tide.
đď¸ CULTURE & STRUCTURE
- Matriarchal Dynasty: Rule is passed through daughters of the Leviathan Queen. Male heirs are rare and chosen only when tide-omens defy prophecy. Rituals bind them to a sea-womb of political expectation.
- Day/Night Duality: Above, Emserai act as pleasure lords, diplomats, and healers. But once the tide shifts, many don masksâbecoming smugglers, mirror-duelists, or ghost-couriers for forbidden texts and lovers' vows.
- Breath-Bond Alliances: Houses are not always blood-based. Romantic pacts, inked oaths, and shared prophetic dreams form family structures. A single kiss can shift political balance if sworn under moonlight law.
- Ink-Hierarchy: Status is marked in layered ink. The deeper and older your tattoos, the higher your standing. The uninked are considered children, even if they rule a ship.
- Tide Trials: Coming-of-age ceremonies often involve mirror submergence, blindfolded fights, or spoken truths in dangerous placesâmeant to test the soul's reflection.
𩸠LINEAGE & BLOODLINES
- House Nhaar: Direct descendants of NhaarâKezhul. Their breath rituals command currents, and their bone-ink tattoos often sing back when submerged.
- Line of Tideglass: Known for mer-shifting, stormsong breath, and dream-swimming. They often act as sea-priests or mirror-dancers.
- Crimson Pearl Kin: A rare hybrid strain, born of Veydrathi and Emserai bloodlines. Known for dusk-toned skin, silver-gold eyes, and seductive psychic presence. Some can wield voidwater.
- House Moonscale: A spiritual sect of monks and tide-scribes. Their family oaths prevent them from speaking during daylight, and their soul-names are sung only under eclipse.
- The Ink-Sealed Twins: Mythic twins who vanished beneath the mirror pool after killing a love-god in a duel. Their bloodline is forbidden from holding naval command⌠though many still do.
