Today, their bloodlines remain potent — but the houses are fractured. Political rivalries, ancient betrayals, and the madness of the Kaelvyrn line have left the nobles divided. Some remain loyal to Queen Allan. Others court rebellion. Still others walk a careful path between loyalty and self-preservation.

Intermarriage with the Irlathi is common, and many nobles bear mixed blood. The Houses are fiercely proud, fiercely political — and eternally dangerous.
